EMSA with luman and UPRE oligonucleotides alone with other motifs and mutant UPRE for control show that luman binds to wild type UPRE, CRE, and C/EBPbeta, but not to mutant UPRE and NF-kB. LZIP appears to be a transcription factor that binds to CRE motif and activates gene expression. HCF binds to LZIP as a co-factor.
